Locks of Love

Melody Knott protests against cancer as a member of the ‘tie dyed question authority’ Flippin Pizza Hut “Supremes” Relay for Life team during the 2008 Marion County Relay for Life. This Hickey Park event was the first smoke free public event in Marion County.
The Supremes raised $1,002 to challenge cancer in part by shearing their long hair in solidarity with those fighting cancer. Volunteers donated hair to Locks for Love as part of a national effort for cosmetic assistance during cancer treatment.
The Relay for Life raises funds and awareness for cancer prevention and research through the American Cancer Society.
Julie Andersen with Tobacco Free Marion County notes, “Tobacco free space de-normalizes the secondhand smoke and inevitable cigarette litter and lets kids know that tobacco use does not have to be a part of the day.”
