Smoke Free Advocates Rendezvous

Tobacco-Free Marion County Program Coordinator, Julie Andersen, and Pine Bluff Mayor Carl Redus enjoy a respite in the Crescent Hotel’s ‘Dr. Baker’s Lounge’ during a gathering of the Arkansas Municipal League in Eureka Springs August 19^th. Both were waiting to address the Health Benefit Fund Board. Acting as Yellville Mayor Janell Kirkwood’s proxy, TFMC representatives were invited to speak to the Board about including tobacco cessation benefits in the Municipal League’s insurance package.

Mayor Redus, in June 2005, cast the deciding vote making Pine Bluff the first predominately black smoke free city in the nation. At this meeting he was addressing the Board in support of a constituent.
