Tobacco Free Contest Winners
Tobacco Free
Marion County’s
marketing budget for Art in the Park involved chalk, kids, and the paved
promenade at Bull
Shoals City
Park June 8th
and 9th. Participants in TFMC’s Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest were
asked to take a bucket of colored chalk, a tobacco free theme, and to express
themselves. Pictured from left are
Saturday’s winners: Kyle Butler, Alex Nemeth, Judge Jenna Despain,
and Katlyn Jennings. Friday’s winners were: Ashley Masek, Audra Golden, and Erica Olsen. The over all Media
Prize was awarded to Kacie Drueppel.
In Arkansas, tobacco industry marketing
outspends prevention 15 to 1 according to the Campaign for Tobacco Free
Kids. The Art in the Park Planning
Committee adopted policy for the 2007 event to not accept funding from the tobacco
cartel. Research has shown that tobacco
marketing and promotion is more likely to influence kids to start smoking than
peer pressure.
